Welcome to Western Convalescent Hospital
Under the supervision of a Rehabilitation Director and Resident’s Physician, our in-house rehabilitation program is specifically designed to be tailored to each resident to maximize their opportunities in recovery. Our Physical therapists aid each patient in achieving their highest level of functional independence with general mobility.
Physical Therapy, also called PT, is a type of care with a goal to help an individual ease pain and improve function, movement and overall quality of life.
A doctor may suggest PT if an injury or illness impedes a patient in performing daily tasks.
At our Los Angeles rehabilitation center, our team of licensed physiotherapists and their assistants work in conjunction with residents care teams. After they evaluate a patient’s condition, they develop a plan of care for your journey to recovery.
Treatments utilized may include hands on treatments such as massages, heat, cold, or ultrasound therapy. These help ease any muscle pain and spasms. They also teach each patient exercises and stretches specific to their needs to improve movement and function.
At a first physical therapy session for a senior, the PT examines and assesses their needs. They may ask questions which relate to:
These questions inform them so that they can determine not only the condition, but also any root causes which have or may contribute. This may include other impairments and our therapists develop a plan of care to address each. Coupled with questions, a PT will administer tests to assess:
Physical Therapists also integrate the patients goals into their treatment plans. At Western Convalescent, we know that every patient is unique, and that each may need more or less time to recover, even with a similar condition. Our goal is work as a team to create and follow individualized rehabilitation plans so that a patient has their highest possible functional mobility independence.
While physical therapy exercises and stretches can be done outside of sessions, the treatment plans formulated by physical therapists are specialized and include guidance and additional technology and equipment which can be unaffordable or may not be available in another setting.
Having an in-house rehabilitation center eases the burden of traveling after an injury, surgery or other illness. Recovery can be incredibly difficult, but our rehabilitation team is ready to be there every step of the way.
We invite you to learn more about our programs and see firsthand how we deliver care with dignity, expertise, and heart.
